Floriana FC return to the big time in European football as they meet Cyprus’ AEK Larnaca this evening at the Hibernians Stadium (kick-off 7.30pm).

It is the first leg of this preliminary second round tie. The second leg is to be played today week in Larnaca, Cyprus.

The last time Floriana played in a European competition was in 2000 in the now defunct Intertoto Cup. And the Greens fans are eagerly looking forward to this evening’s clash. They are expected to throng the stadium to give their full support to their favourites.

The Greens are hoping to do well and are confident of winning today’s match to take a lead in the return match.

Floriana have strengthened the side with the arrival of two foreigners in the form of former Ghana international goalkeeper William Amamoo and Brazilian striker Edilson Fiori dos Santos.

The two players are expected to make their official debut for the Greens this evening, even if coach Michael Woods is expected to start with Matthew Towns who helped the side last season in beating Valletta 1-0 in the FA Trophy final.

The Greens are expected to start more or less with the same formation which finished last season, but Woods is expected to start cautiously in an effort to avoid a negative start.
